..
Björk is an Icelandic singer with her own peculiar musical universe. She makes her first recordings – music for children – at the age of 12 and continues as lead-singer in various Icelandic groups, in particular Tappi Tikarrass in 1982-1986 and The Sugarcubes in 1987-1991. The latter becomes popular on the British post-punk scene with 4 LPs and 17 singles. Björk then launches her solo-career with original trip-hop and alternative rock music, achieving mass-success with her 3 LPs ‘Debut’ (1992), ‘Post’ (1993) and ‘Homogenic’ (1997). As from her LP ‘Vespertine’ (2001), she evolves into more esoteric and experimental folk music, composing several film soundtracks and releasing 5 more albums in 2004-2017.

PJ Harvey – We float (2000)
..
PJ Harvey is the undisputed Queen of the British alternative rock scene in the 1995-2005 period. After the striking raw rock of her early hits ‘Dress‘, ‘Rid of me‘ and ‘Man-size‘, PJ Harvey delivers avant-garde alt-rock compositions with elaborate, intense and elegant musical content like the magnificent ‘Down by the water’ (1995), ‘A perfect day Elise‘, ‘The wind‘ (1998), ‘A place called home‘, ‘This mess we’re in‘ or ‘We float’ (2000). Since 2007 however, her music becomes predominantly acoustic and uses, among other things, old string or wind instruments such as the lyre harp, the accordion and the harmonica. Her three LPs ‘White chalk’ (2007), ‘Let England shake’ (2011) and ‘I inside the old year dying’ (2023) are masterpieces. Over time, alt-rock star PJ Harvey has muted into a Queen of modern folk, exploring a musical universe that her 1996 song ’That was my veil’ had indeed previously announced.
