Bulat Okudzhava (Moscow 1924, Paris 1997) is the greatest Soviet bard. He starts singing in 1957, records about 200 of his own songs and also publishes 15 fiction books and numerous collections of poems. Initially distributed as amateur-recordings in the early 60s, his songs become immensely popular and later appear in 28 Soviet films. Born from a Georgian father and Armenian mother, he lived most of his life in Arbat street, in Moscow.
