OK.. BUT WHAT'S POP AND WHAT'S NOT?

ePopMusic adopts a holistic view of pop-music, including all genres of popular music broadcast at their times through recording and reproduction with the exclusion of classical music. It is true that upon its appearance in the 1960s the term ‘pop-music’ meant to signal a distinction between traditional singing styles and rock’n roll or beat-pop. But such distinction isn’t any longer relevant nowadays, as pop-music carries on in boundless fused modes.

ePopMusic's view is that what makes it 'POP' is neither the instrument nor the tempo, but the sharing and the pleasure, the place and the time. It is a theme that surprises and haunts us, the call of a sound, the dance or glam of a tune that sneaks into our poetic memory. It is changing like spring and autumn. It is simply because without consulting each other, we all agree on it. For what it's worth, some distinctly reductive definitions of what is 'POP' (as offered by wikipedia) are reproduced hereunder.

.. ABOUT POP MUSIC & THE QUESTION: "What's pop and what's not?" (ref. wikipedia)

English

Pop music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form in the United States and United Kingdom during the mid-1950s. The terms “popular music” and “pop music” are often used interchangeably, although the former describes all music that is popular and includes many different styles. “Pop” and “rock” were roughly synonymous terms until the late 1960s, when they became increasingly differentiated from each other.
